I want to give a great big shout out to a few companys that have more than helped me out. Without these people and there shops my project would not be coming along as well as it has.
Covlett Machine in Marysville ask for J.R. he really knows his stuff. Basically J.R. has made all my drive parts and shafts as well as the bell housing alterations and hubs for all the props. Super good quality work I really recommend them if you need a part machined or made.
AAA Radiator Marysville ask for Larry His sand blaster has been in value-able. This is a great place for custome work or gas tank cleaning and repair. Plus Larry has been giving me the advice on installing my A/C system on my hovercraft.
Hart Motor Sports (DAD) for letting me do my build in the race prep shop. I broke the number 1 rule don't build bigger than will fit in your own garage.
Parts list:
I am making a list of parts for the craft I used. Where I got them and what I payed. I think everyone thinks the plans would have been more helpfull listing off all the material needed in cut sizes. Instead of a starter materials list. I realize there is not many pieces but it would have been nice to just have a sheet with what to order. I'm not a big fan of trips to the hardware store or steel shop. Beside for the average builder at home for a about a buck a cut the steel shop will just cut your pieces for you. Fax the order in and pick it up. Take it home and start welding or brazing.
Also I would like to see a salt water version for the plans for future builders with a aluminum mounting system. Even if you are not a aluminum welder you can bolt it together and then take it to the welding shop and spend a couple hundred on welding. Probably the same as if it were steel and you had to have it blasted and powder coated. I know I'm kicking myself for taking off a rusty drive and building another of the same material. Yes I plan to take better maintence of the craft than the previuos owner. But if i get down the road in 5 years and its looking ugly at all it will be redone in aluminum for sure. stainless mounts are out of the question as far as i'm concerned. Called around and it's just tuff to get a hold of unless you wat 21ft sticks of every size you need. Just seemed a little exsive. Specialty metals in Woodinville Washington I was told had cut pieces but I have to admit I was to lazy to go drive out there and look. NO web page and no real help on the phone. My brother assured me that it was there I belive his comapny buys product from the or recycles product with them.
If you found a trick or part you like e mail me. For what ever craft. Let's help the next build faster and smarter. Give me a part# if you have where you got it and what you payed. If you have other detail or picts I'll post that too.
I will do all the machine work so there will be no pricing for that. As well as the poweder coating. Coatings are cheap, I recommend coating everything every time. Why not you have to paint them any how.

- Ilift fan attachment to the drive shafts will be through a aluminum hubs for the drive and lift fans. Covlet machine in marysville WA. 360 659 1977 ask for J.R. Is cnc'ing them for me. Should have them in a few days. If your buying new lift fans buy the adapter from multi wing there $29.00 for the 1" shaft. They would not work with mine just becuase the lift fan hub had been drilled for a home made flange. So the next best thing and certainly not the cheap route was to just have them made. photos Cost two cases of coors light at 11.93 each and 30 bucks for a heli coil kit.
- Pillow blocks: I used the recommendation from Bryan Phillips at Amphib to not use the standard plans blocks. On the salt water he ran into a issue of the bearing rusting in tight. Bryan offers Valox plastic blocks PPL207 1 1/4" plastic composite pillow blocks for $36.00 each you need three. You also need four that are 1" and they are PPL205 $27.30. He had a great price on shipping $10.00. Photos with pictures of part on scale.
- Pillow block stainless non corosive bearing inserts:
- I chose to use stainless drive shafts at all points. Three 36" shafts that will be cut down ran $67.00 each at everett steel. WWW.everettsteel.com I just faxed my list to Bryan in the cutting department and he put it all together and called when it was ready for pick up.
- airdrive frame to hull grommetts. Rubber mounts for vibration. The plans called for napa bushing but had no part number. The part # is napa 602-1045 List price is 3.58 I have a wholesale account and paid $2.42 each you need 8 of them. If you live where there is not a napa the saleman told me they were stock motor mounts for a 1950 chevy truck or car.
- Steering gear (or Helm) Teleflex JBS system. The JBS stands for Jet boat Steering. It is offered in 135* degree lock to lock or 270* lock to lock. I am using 135* steering rack. Michael Weller (engine systems manager) at www.Go2marine.com is very knowledgable and helped me out. Geat place for boat stuff. Part # SH5087P 135* Jet Boat Helm $80.00 PHOTOS
- Steering tilt system: Certainly not needed but as the craft is driven from a standing position and the kids are all different hieghts. I decided on the option. It's very light and just lets the steering wheel rotate about 90* degrees I believe. My brother has it in his ski boat and it's very usuable. www.go2marine.com part # SH91700P TFXtreme Tilt Mechanism. $111.97. You can use just the unit above with out this tilt feature if you choose.
- Steering cable: Again I went to Michael Weller at www.go2marine.com. Go2 offers cables and they are custom built inhouse by them. This is a nice feature it allows you to order exactly what you want. I needed a cable about 20ft long. No part number just tell them what you need. Phone # is toll free at 800-998-9508 ext 110. Cable was about $130.00
- Helm mounting kit: www.go2marine.com This is a great feature that makes mounting your helm very fast. Kinda a quick run through on this. You just decide where you want your steering wheel in the dash. Hole saw the center hole. Drill three holes around the hole using the bracket to mark the holes. Nut and bolt the bracket to the thre holes you just drilled. hold the helm up to the bracket and tighten the three bolts to it. Were talking a very fast install here. Virtually no measuring or exact marking at all. Run your cable to the back and run the one bolt through your rudder attachment point with a nylock and your done. JBS Bezel and mounting hardware kit part# SB39452P $11.00. I used my old steering wheel. But it looks like a wheel is about $40.00 new if you dont have one already.
- Throttle cable: I'm just about to this part. I have not decided on making my own or buying one from www.go2marine.com. They will both work great I was just thinking it would look a little more pro with a marine cable that is self lubracated. Will see.
- Ivo prop hub: Standard two/three blade hub. I use a the three blade set up. If you start cranking the power up they also offer a four blade set up for a hub. Price $100.00 shipping was $11.00 Ivo prop 15903 lakewood blvd. #103 pmp#330 Bell flower, California. 90706 Telephone (562) 602-1451 FAX (562) 602-1374 Photos
